Kernersville Mural Festival featuring Ladies Who Paint is a public event where local women artists come together to celebrate our community by creating large-scale murals on the exteriors of buildings in downtown Kernersville. These artists will be simultaneously live painting, allowing the public to watch the creative process unfold, leaving a public art walk after the event is complete. The Kernersville Mural Festival will amplify the creativity of women in the public art setting while spreading art to the Kernersville community. The festival is organized by local Kernersville mural artist, Christina Parrish. Beyond the festival, these murals will become a lasting cultural landmark, turning the town into a vibrant destination for art lovers and visitors. By supporting this event, sponsors will not only invest in public art but also in community engagement, tourism, and the empowerment of women artists. Join us in bringing art to life and leaving a bold, colorful mark on Kernersville!

A statement from the festival organizer:
Good afternoon, Kernersville friends and supporters! I’m excited about the upcoming Mural Festival– this event has been a year in the making. As we finalize preparations, I’ve encountered an unexpected regulatory issue that I want to explain clearly. Kernersville currently has no formal public-art ordinance or commission, so our festival murals are being treated under the town’s existing sign regulations. That means our painted walls must follow the same rules as commercial signs. Under Kernersville’s sign ordinance, private sponsorship by a business on any mural is strictly limited as it is considered an off-premise sign. In other words, we cannot include the “Sponsored by [Business Name]” lines or logos on the murals as we had planned and advertised to the public. I apologize for not catching this sooner; I genuinely regret the confusion this may have caused.
What This Means:
In the meantime, please know that we will do everything possible to keep the festival on track. Thank you to everyone for your understanding, especially our generous individual and business sponsors, talented artists, enthusiastic volunteers, and all the supporters of public art in Kernersville. We appreciate your patience as we navigate this unexpected hurdle. We are still very excited to bring beautiful murals to downtown Kernersville this weekend, and we look forward to celebrating art and community together.
Good afternoon, Kernersville friends and supporters! I’m excited about the upcoming Mural Festival– this event has been a year in the making. As we finalize preparations, I’ve encountered an unexpected regulatory issue that I want to explain clearly. In other words, we cannot include the “Sponsored by [Business Name]” lines or logos on the murals as we had planned and advertised to the public. I apologize for not catching this sooner; I genuinely regret the confusion this may have caused.
What This Means:
- Sponsor recognition: Because of these rules, we cannot place “sponsored by” credits for business sponsors on the murals. The ordinance’s off-premise signage section prohibits this within the Kernersville area.
- Communication with sponsors: I have already contacted all our business-level sponsors to explain the situation. Each sponsor now has the option to continue supporting the festival or to withdraw and have their sponsorship funding returned to them, since the on-mural credit we promoted cannot be delivered. We understand if some decide to step back, and we fully respect their choices.
- Festival impact: We realize this change may reduce the number of murals we install this weekend. If several sponsors withdraw, we will adjust our lineup of sites accordingly. All artists and wall donors this affects have already been notified. It will also affect planning for future phases of the festival.
- Sponsor appreciation: Above all, we remain deeply grateful to our sponsors. Many joined because they wanted to “invest in public art” and “community pride” through this event. We understand their disappointment at not getting the wall recognition they expected. Our team is committed to honoring their support in other meaningful ways.
In the meantime, please know that we will do everything possible to keep the festival on track. We appreciate your patience as we navigate this unexpected hurdle.
